Job Description:

We are seeking Pharmacy Technicians who are patient focused and passionate about Primary Care to join our Pharmacy Team in Ripon and Masham Primary Care Network.

This is a hybrid role, predominantly home-based, with the requirement to attend training and meetings in the Harrogate and Rural district area. There is also the potential to develop more on-site working in the future and so living within commutable distance would be advantageous.

Pharmacy Technicians will undertake patient supporting and patient facing roles to ensure effective medicines use, provide technical and administrative support to the Clinical Pharmacists and clinicians, support the team with medication queries and complete clinical audits.

The role is based within Ripon and Masham Primary Care Network which comprises of 4 practices; 3 within the heart of Ripon and 1 based in the rural setting of at Masham. This is an exciting opportunity to join the growing Pharmacy Team, supporting our patients and providing excellent clinical care

Key Responsibilities

Undertake patient facing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shared-decision making conversations with patients.
Work with the PCN multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation.
Carry out medicine optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation.
Synchronise medicines for patient transfers between care settings and linking with local community pharmacists.
Take a central role in the clinical aspects of shared care protocols and liaising with specialist pharmacists for more complex patients.
Provide specialist expertise, where competent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients.
Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
Assist in the delivery of patient safety audits.
Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
Provide support to Practice staff and patients with regards to prescription and medication queries.
Provide support on the legal, safe and secure handling of medicines, including the implementation of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).

Person Specification
Qualifications

Essential

Mandatory registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services
GCSE Level (or equivalent) Grade C in Maths, Science and English

Experience

Essential

Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting
Understanding of the nature of GP workload and general practice
Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), presentation and influencing skills
Competent user of Microsoft Office programmes, including Outlook, Excel and Word to create simple plans and reports
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and promote collaborative working

Desirable

Previous work experience in a primary care setting or GP practice
Experience with using SystmOne clinical system
