We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team of pharmacists and technicians, providing a high standard of pharmaceutical care to the population of Orkney.
As well as an interesting and influential role, you’ll have a genuine opportunity to positively contribute towards healthcare in Orkney. You will be actively involved in the continuing development and delivery of Hospital Pharmacy Services within NHS Orkney, aligned with the visions of Realistic Medicine and Pharmacy 2030: a professional vision, with strong links across all sectors of healthcare.
You will have the opportunity to apply and develop your clinical skills in surgical and medical, acute and long stay settings and be supported to undertake any necessary post graduate clinical training and professional development, including independent prescribing and clinical assessment skills.
The pharmacy team is integrated across Health and Social Care and you will be based in the pharmacy department of our new healthcare facility, which hosts the hospital and two busy GP practices.

They Will Also Have Or Be Prepared To Work Towards
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be committed to lifelong learning.
- A post-graduate qualification in appropriate area of pharmacy practice.
- Registration as an independent pharmacist prescriber with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- A high level of professional competence and expert clinical knowledge, reasoning and judgement; with wide ranging knowledge and understanding of pharmacy practice, including ethical and legal requirements
- Excellent leadership, communication, multi-disciplinary team working and interpersonal skills; with the ability to prioritise work in a self-directed way under pressure, prioritise and to manage time effectively
- Consideration will be given to applicants with less experience or from community pharmacy, to undertake the role as a development post, commencing at a band 7 and progressing to band 8a after completion of any required professional development and training.

Consideration will be given to applicants with no hospital pharmacy experience, for example community pharmacists, for appointment at Band 7, with later progression to Band 8a.
